Setting Up Arist for Slack

Learn how Arist delivers courses inside Slack, the per-workspace credential model behind the integration, and the steps to authorize the Arist app for your workspace.

Platform access level: Org Admins

Setting Arist up in Slack delivers courses in the workspace learners already use, so learners complete training without leaving Slack. This guide explains the credential model behind the integration and how you authorize Arist for a workspace. It is written for the Org Admin who connects Slack.

1. Global app and per-workspace tokens

Arist runs a single global Slack app for the whole platform. Each workspace you connect authorizes that app separately, and Slack issues a per-workspace bot token that Arist stores for that workspace alone. Because the token is per workspace, you authorize Arist once for every workspace you want to reach.

Learners open the Arist app inside Slack to start and complete courses.

Note: If the app name includes (Legacy), you are in Arist's older app rather than the current one, so switch apps before you continue.

2. Authorizing Arist in your workspace

You connect Slack one workspace at a time. An Org Admin installs and authorizes the Arist Slack app for the workspace, which is what generates the stored bot token.

  1. The Org Admin clicks on "Organization Settings" by selecting their logo in the top-left corner.

Note: If you don't have Admin permissions in Slack, you'll see a "Request to install" screen where you can submit a request to your Slack App Manager. You will need to wait until they have granted permission to complete the final steps.
